Portos dos Açores
The Azores, thanks to its geostrategic location, have always been a point of importance in the North Atlantic crossing. Since the age of sailing, where the currents favored the passage through the islands, making them an important point of support for travel, until the advent of aviation, where the travellers crossing the ocean between America and Europe found haven and support in the archipelago .
Nowadays, due to its ultra-peripherality, the Azores port infrastructure is a vital element in the economy, society and tourism in the region. The works carried out and performed on these infrastructures are essential to the maintenance and enhancement of its vitality.
The role and contribution that new technologies and recent investments in maritime safety have offered, particularly in terms of tides, winds, swell, movement of ships, or through equipment and appliances recently placed at the service of the seas of the Azores, is an unavoidable reality.
